How To Cook Asparagus

Simple Cooking Tips for This Easy Side Dish

It's easy to learn how to cook asparagus. Steamed asparagus, stir-fry asparagus, and even broiled asparagus are super quick to cook and delicious too, making them the perfect easy side dish for dinner any night. How to cook asparagus

Saucepan or Frying pan:

Cook fresh asparagus for about 5 – 8 minutes in a small amount of boiling water until they are crispy-tender. Drain and shock them in a bowl of ice-cold water to stop the cooking process.

Stir-Fry:

Cut asparagus in 1/2 inch pieces, leaving the tips whole. In a wok or deep-sided pan, stir-fry the pieces in hot oil on medium high heat. Stir constantly for 3 to 5 minutes or until crispy-tender.

Microwave:

Place fresh asparagus in a microwavable dish or serving bowl. If cooking whole spears, arrange with tips in center. Add about 1/4 cup water and cover tightly. Microwave on high for 4 to 7 minutes for spears, and 3 to 5 minutes for cut pieces. Stir or turn halfway through cooking time.

And my favorite method:

Roast:

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Toss asparagus spears with olive oil, and season with coarse salt and fresh ground black pepper. Arrange spears in a single layer on a baking sheet. Roast for about 10 minutes. Hmmm. Yummo!
